Actor legend Robert Redford’s son James Redford died Friday at his home in Marin County, California, at the age of 56 after a battle with liver cancer.

On Monday morning, his wife Kyle went to Twitter to post a photo gallery of the filmmaker and worker to remember his life.

He wrote: ‘Jamie died today. We are upset that he lived a beautiful, influential life and many liked him. She will be deeply missed.

Even after receiving two liver transplants in 1993, he started fighting for his health from an early age.

The social worker found the James Redford Institute for Transplant Awareness a nonprofit aimed at educating people about organ and tissue donation.

He later co-founded the nonprofit The Radford Center with his father, Robert, now 74, which aims to provide even grants to filmmakers who focus on the environment and climate in the hope of solving speculation.

Jill Tidman, executive director of the charity, also shared the news of his pass on Instagram: ‘We are deeply saddened by the loss of our co-founder, our inspiration and our friend James Redford.’

He always led with his huge heart and was guided by his curiosity and creative consciousness. James – whose mother Lola van Wagenen – followed in the footsteps of his legendary father as a filmmaker in most documentaries that focused on health and the environment.

He went on to make several films, including 2013’s Paper Tigers, 2016’s Resilience, and 2017’s Events: A Clean Energy Revolution.

His most recent film – Pleasing for Kips – premiered at the Mill Valley Film Festival this month because it was mostly virtual.

Redford’s wife, Kyle, also told the Saltlake Tribune that The Past Begins is over, a documentary on PBS’s American Masters that traces the immigrant journey of Amy Tan, author of The Joy Lock Club.
