Kylie Minogue became the first female artist in five decades to release a number one album in the UK.

Recorded mostly at home during the lockdown, Disco – his 15th studio album where he revisited the roots of his dance music – compiled the best opening week ever for any release in the UK, including 55000 chart sales in 2020.

This is the eighth time that the artist has topped the Official Charts Company’s album rankings, surpassing Sir Elton John, Sir Cliff Richard and George Michael.

“It sounds crazy to me. I’m 52 years old.” Minogue Says about a five-decade record – a compliment he now shares with Bruce Springsteen.

Speaking about pop power, Minogue said it could be a marker for human life.

“It’s the most complex strategy to do so simple pop songs that seem so simple. There’s no barrier. There’s no strategy. It’s just an amazing song,” he said.

After making his name in the hit soap opera “Neighbors”, Minogue broke into the music scene in the late 1970s working with producers Stock, Itken and Waterman.

Mike Stock recalled their first meeting in 1987.

“When Kylie first came into the studio, she was sitting in the back crotching corner of Matt Itken and I both thought, ‘God, I hope she’s got some surprises’ … but we got her behind the mic. … The switch tickled and she was.
A star, ”he said.

They made four albums together, the first two co – Kylie (1988) and Enjoy Yourself (1989) – also reached the first one spot.

“We made the first album one of the best-selling albums of the whole decade,” Stock said.

“… I’m obviously very proud of that. Kylie is proud of those who have worked with the business for a long time – just to survive.
An achievement. But he’s doing great. “
