The Houston Texans made a major splash in the offseason by acquiring star running back Joe Mixon in a trade with the Cincinnati Bengals. Mixon, who was initially set to be released by the Bengals after they signed Zack Moss, will now be suiting up for the Texans in the upcoming season.
General manager Nick Caserio wasted no time in securing Mixon, showing serious interest in the running back after missing out on other big-name free agents. Mixon has had a successful career with the Bengals, rushing for over 1,000 yards in four different seasons and making the Pro Bowl in 2021.
Mixon is in the final year of his current contract with the Texans, set to earn $5.75 million in 2024 with $3 million guaranteed on March 17th. He will also have incentives for reaching specific rushing yard milestones and scoring touchdowns.
With Mixon expected to be the starter and a three-down back for the Texans, this addition should provide a more balanced attack for the team and take some pressure off NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year C.J. Stroud. Mixon will be supported by running backs Dameon Pierce and potentially another player for depth.
