March 10 will be a very important day for the M-Sport and Ford Performance team, as the first shakedown of the new car to be held in 2022 will be the World Rally.
This is the Hybrid Rally 1, which was commissioned by the team for the first time at Cockrum’s headquarters today.
The team has not yet revealed the model of the car that will begin testing – although from some details it seems that the base car that will be tested first may still be the latest version of the Ford Fiesta.
Although the car’s identity is hidden, both M-Sport and Ford Performance released the first teaser photos of the car this afternoon. Or rather, the first remnants of bodywork.
It is easy to see how the new car is dressed in camouflage attire and should remain so for the next few weeks. In addition to the photos, the team has also published a short video in which you can hear the roar of the 1.6 turbo heat engine, which, we recall, emanates directly from the one used on WRC cars.
Meanwhile, both M-Sport and Ford Performance have stated that the car will have its first test tomorrow. This will actually be a shakedown, to prove that all systems are functioning properly.
The electrical parts of the 2022 engines, 100kW motors that are to be used in transit en route to city centers, and in some special stages (we are talking about stage shows) were delivered in the last week, in the month of February .
The M-Sport, which is passing another transition season away from excellent results in this 2021, will be able to console tomorrow with the introduction of the hybrid RB1.
The car will continue to develop over the next few weeks. Meanwhile, it will be equipped with Pirelli 2021 tires while waiting for the Mireni manufacturer’s first response and may eventually think about manufacturing a specially designed tire for the 2022 Rally 1.
