German railway company Deutsche Bahn announced on Sunday that all Ukrainians arriving from Poland can travel for free on long-distance trains.
“In cooperation with the Polish Railways, Deutsche Bahn Rail (…) is preparing to put in additional wagons and special trains” if Ukrainian refugees, fleeing the fighting, arrive in large numbers, indicated in a communication to the Bahn. .
On the same day, Austrian Transport Minister Leonor Gessler announced a similar measure.
The Austrian official said in a tweet that it had reached an agreement with state-owned company OEBB to allow Ukrainians fleeing their country to use the company’s trains without tickets.
