Roman Abramovich has entrusted Chelsea’s ‘caretaker and care’ to the club’s charitable foundation following Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.
Lawmakers this week called on Russia-born Abramovich not to be allowed to own Chelsea because of alleged ties to Vladimir Putin’s regime.
In a rare statement from Abramovich published on the club’s website, the Chelsea boss said: “In my nearly 20 years as owner of Chelsea FC, I have always contemplated my role as the club’s goalkeeper, whose job it is.” Ensuring that we are as successful today as possible by playing a positive role in our communities, building for the future.
“I have always taken decisions in the interest of the club,” he said. I stick to these values. I therefore today entrust the management and care of Chelsea FC to the Trustees of the Chelsea Charitable Foundation.
“I think they are currently in the best position to protect the interests of the club, players, staff and supporters.”
After Russian troops crossed the border with Ukraine on Tuesday, Labor MP Chris Bryant told the House of Commons that the assets of the Russian-Israeli billionaire should be confiscated, wondering whether he should manage a football club himself. and cited a leaked government document that suggested he should not be allowed to stay in the UK.

Ahead of the Wembley showpiece, Chelsea head coach Thomas Tuchel admitted that he understood the criticism Chelia had faced after the Russian invasion of Ukraine.
“It distracts us, it worries us, to some extent I can understand that, I can understand the critical opinion of us towards the club and the people it represents,” Tuchel said. We cannot completely free ourselves from it. ,
