Restarting, canceling Indonesia's Lion Air flights

(CNN) – Just weeks after restarting domestic flights, Indonesia carrier Lion Air canceled them again, showing problems with passengers who did not comply with Covid-19 regulations.

The Lion Air group, including Batik Air and Wings Air, began to slowly re-introduce short-haul flight routes on May 10. However, the restored flights did not take long.

The company has announced that all routes have been suspended from 5 June, due to the widespread problems that passengers do not comply with the rules regarding coronavirus regarding social distances and health descriptions.

In the press release“Many potential passengers were unable to air travel as the Corona Virus Disease 2019 (Covid-19) did not complete the required documents and conditions during the pandemic warning period,” said the Lion Air representative.
Several international flights offered by the airline were also canceled. Under normal operations, Lion Air flies to Saudi Arabia, China, Malaysia and Singapore.
Jakarta based airline, blocking middle seats, deep cleaning aircraft and replacing HEPA filters on aircraft where any passenger is suspected.

In the announcement of the decision, Lion Air specifically expressed its concerns about the health of the employees, especially the cabin crew who risked contracting the coronavirus from travelers.

“The Lion Air Group supports the government on efforts to prevent the spread of Covid-19 through active participation in the implementation of health protocols established by the Ministry of Transport, the Ministry of Health and Task Force,” the company said. June 3.

So far, there is no word on when these flights will be rescheduled. Lion Air offers a refund to passengers who have already booked their tickets, but for now, no one is allowed to make new reservations.
