The inevitable event of the Games, the men’s 100 m final crowned Italian Marcel Jacobs in 9’80. He is the first European to win the competition since Briton Linford Christie in 1992. In tennis, Alexander Zverev is the new Olympic champion after winning the straight sets final against Karen Khachanov.

On the French side, the foil players were crowned Olympic champions against the Russians at the end of a controlled final, the handball players being defeated by Norway (32–29) for the first time in these games.
