Prelude is coming to the UK, US and Canada this summer

Fruits Basket: The Prelude Movie is coming overseas, exclusively to select theaters in the UK, Canada and the US. The special event film will be distributed by Crunchyroll, with select theaters in the United States and Canada screening the film in subtitled and dubbed formats on June 25, 28 and 29. The film will also release in the UK on July 20 with a dubbed version only.

Fruit Basket: Preface Premiered in Japan in February. It grossed over 33 million yen in the opening weekend. In addition to the release dates, Crunchyroll has also unveiled the trailer for Fruits Basket: Prologue in subtitled and dubbed versions:

The cast of the original Japanese and English dubs included:

  • Tohru Honda – Manaka Iwami/Laura Bailey

Crunchyroll describes the film’s plot as follows:
First there were Tohru and Kyo – there was Katsuya and Kyoko. Discover the tumultuous beginning of Tohru’s mother’s dark past and the man who gives her new hope. Watch the development of their love affair and the birth of the Honda family, as this chapter completes the full adaptation of Fruits Basket’s heartwarming story.

There have also been 2 anime adaptations in the series. The first came out in 2001, but it didn’t cover the whole story (Studio Din). TMS Entertainment and 8 Pan co-produced the reboot, which began airing in 2019 and had a total of 3 seasons, spanning over 60 episodes.
