NBC Universal Format and Showmax bring “The Real Housewives” to Lagos

The Real Housewives of Lagos will debut as a Showmax Originals in 2022. After breaking Showmax’s record in South Africa earlier this year, the leading African streaming service has renewed The Real Housewives of Durban for a second season as well.

After being successful in 50 countries in Africa, the first season of “The Real Housewives of Durban” was released in several international territories.

Real Housewives of Lagos (RHOL) will be the first Nigerian installment of the award-winning franchise, to be distributed internationally by NBC Universal Formats, a division of Universal Studios Group. It is also the 16th international edition of the Real Housewives format and the third to be adapted in Africa.

RHOL builds on the success of the first and second African editions. The Real Housewives of Johannesburg was among the 10 most-streamed home series on Showmax in 2019, while The Real Housewives of Durban (RHOD) broke records when it launched on the African streaming service in January 2021. RHOD has since been launched. Successfully sold in 50 countries on Hue as well as Africa in 27 international territories including Canada, the United Kingdom, Ireland, Spain, France, Germany, the Netherlands, Singapore and the Philippines. The second season of the hit show will return to Showmax early next year.
