Joint Statement by the Spokespersons of the Foreign Ministries of France, Germany and the United Kingdom (09.06.2022)

The governments of France, Germany and the United Kingdom, along with other participants and the United States, have placed in good faith all their efforts in talks with Iran since April 2021 to restore the JCPOA. A viable agreement is on the table from March 2022, which would allow Iran to return to its commitments under the agreement between the JCPOA and the United States. We regret that Iran did not take advantage of the diplomatic opportunity to terminate the agreement. We tell him to do that now. We are ready to close the deal.

Despite this, Iran has begun to install new advanced centrifuges, and has confirmed to the IAEA its decision to end all transparency measures under the JCPOA. This jeopardizes the ability of the IAEA to restore the continuity of its knowledge on the production of essential parts of the Iranian nuclear programme, particularly centrifuges.

We condemn these measures and Iran’s choice to respond to the concerns expressed by the IAEA Board of Governors – in a resolution adopted by an overwhelming majority – by announcing new actions to further reduce its cooperation with the IAEA . These actions only exacerbate the situation and complicate our efforts to return to full implementation of the JCPOA. The moves also cast doubt on Iran’s commitment to backing the success of the talks. We urge Iran to immediately resume the application of additional protocols and all monitoring and verification measures under the JCPOA, end its nuclear escalation and return to the PAGC the agreement, which is on the table today.
