The Iranian Foreign Ministry on Friday promised an “immediate and proportionate response” to any Western political action against Tehran within the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).

The head of Iranian diplomacy, Hossein Amir-Abdullahian, confirmed during a telephone conversation with his European counterpart, Josep Borrell, that “the recent decision of the West is contrary to diplomatic practice”, the agency reports. Iranian Press IRNA.

“This is a hasty and non-constructive measure”, which will “make the negotiation process more difficult and complicated”, the head of Iranian diplomacy declared. And Amir-Abdullahian said: “Any political action by the United States and the three European countries within the IAEA will provoke a proportionate, effective and immediate response from Tehran”.

The foreign minister also highlighted the efforts of the head of European diplomacy in the context of ongoing talks to restart the Iranian nuclear deal.

The senior Iranian official reiterated his country’s willingness and readiness to continue talks aimed at reaching a satisfactory and realistic outcome, which has been accepted by all concerned.

The Vienna talks aim to bring the United States back to the nuclear deal and force Iran to fully meet its international commitments under the 2015 deal.

In May 2018, Washington withdrew from the nuclear deal signed in 2015 between Iran and the group (5+1), which includes Russia, the United Kingdom, China, the United States, France and Germany, and imposed economic sanctions on Tehran.

Tehran and Washington stand firm on their position. While Iran wants all US sanctions and guarantees given by Washington not to be withdrawn from the deal again, the United States asked Iran to abide by its commitments.
