The National Front for the Defense of the Constitution (FNDC) in Guinea, through its French lawyers, who seized the Council of the European Union, called for the presidential regime to freeze the assets of the families of 21 personalities. Alpha Conde fell.
“The undersigned announces that they have sent on 24 August 2021, by two letters to the Council of the European Union and its High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, a request to freeze assets, restrict travel and/or travel and repatriate families Out of 21 personalities from the regime of Mr. Alpha Condé, the ousted President of Guinea,” attorneys William Bourdain and Vincent Brengarth wrote in their press release on Tuesday, 5 October.
Both advocates point out that under European law, the Council of the Union can sanction persons responsible for serious human rights violations or for carrying out activities that seriously undermine democracy or the status of the Union.
In this case, they continue, all those targeted by the request are involved in the brutal repression of opponents of the Condé regime.
Bourdon and Brengarth cite examples of Condé’s bloody suppression of anti-Third protests by security forces, in which at least twelve people were killed in Conakry, with many wounded and the presence of mass graves, fifty. In N’zérékoré.
He believes his request is still relevant, even if President Condé is overthrown by a military putsch on 5 September. Both the lawyers warned that another list of figures from the previous regime would be followed in the coming days.
Recall that at the end of September, the FNDC, a coalition of political parties and civil society organizations, compiled and published a list of 93 personalities of the Condé regime to be banned from the ongoing infection in the country.
