BREAKING: Man dies after Mercedes driven over roundabout before smashing into trees

A man has died after a horror crash in Leigh.

Police said a Mercedes A200 drove straight over a roundabout before crashing into trees last night (Saturday).

A 30-year-old man, a passenger in the car, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Officers arrested a 29-year-old man on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving.

The incident happened at about 11pm.

The East Lancs Road in Leigh

The Mercedes had been travelling on the East Lancs Road before approaching a roundabout at the junction of Warrington Road, known locally as the Greyhound roundabout.

It travelled straight over the roundabout, police said.

Anyone with information or video footage is being asked to contact police.

This morning, Police Constable Karl Horner of GMP’s Serious Collision Investigation Unit said: “Our thoughts are with the man’s family at this dreadful time.

“They are being supported by specialist officers while our investigations continue.

“It’s vital that anyone with information, who witnessed the crash or saw the car prior to the collision gets in touch.

“We would also ask that anyone with CCTV or dashcam footage that can assist us contact police.”
