Teacher Donald Fear Who Wants to Be a Millionaire won the jackpot and removed the TV final last night – and even better than his brother who won £ 500,000 on the show a year ago.
The 57-year-old Donald was the all-time best player on the ITV show as he used only one of his four lifelines and became the full go-go winner and the first for 14 years. He answered 15 questions from host Jeremy Clarkson in just 20 minutes to take part in the awards.
Donald, who teaches history and politics, told the Mirror how he got the advice to win from his brother, David, who won the jackpot on a ড 1 million question in September last year but left when he couldn’t answer.
“The moment they read my name and I was in a hurry, at the second moment I thought my brother told me to go to the show and work, focus and concentrate,” said Donald, recalling the moment he won the fastest finger goal to get into the hot seat. And I did.
“So at that moment you look serious at me, there was no stabbing in the air or this kind of lark, I was in this area. The next thing in the discussion was getting up in the chair because I was a little worried because I got quite short legs! “
But no question came up in Donald’s chair or when the question came up. He used a 50:50 on the 32 32,000 question but was quite confident.
“Of the 15 questions I probably knew about the immediate release of the options in 13,” he said.
“It included millions of pounds in questions, 500 500,000 and £ 250,000. It’s very easy to know the answers.
“How did I feel when the million pound question arose? ‘I know the answer. I’m just going for it. So the idea of ‘my god I’m here with a horrible long drop down the hard rope’ never occurred to me. This was a common question and most history teachers knew the answer to their nun even though it was not part of the curriculum. That was one of the simplest questions in millions of pounds. “
Referring to his brother’s previous presence, Donald added: “He is very pleased with me. We actually went and spent the night at a hotel with our wives last week, and we absolutely got the plaster and he kept tapping me and told me how happy he was and how happy he was.
“Obviously we’ve been competing together all our lives. He’s two and a half years older than me. He could no longer rejoice that I was his when he won the show.
“He’s actually smarter than me but I was a lot, I was lucky with the questions and the final question.”
The show, which came out last night, was actually filmed in July and Donald and his 33-year-old wife celebrated ten million wins on a decent holiday in the UK through a caravan.
He said: “We had already booked the caravan vacation. We were supposed to take the ferry from Plymouth to Santander. He then settled in Santander, Bilbao, Pamplona, crossed the Pyrenees, traveled to France, and saw the castles but Covid had other ideas. So we desperately tried to get what we could, in a caravan at Whitley Bay. It looks naf but it is on the Northbarland coast and we took a boat trip around the Faroe Islands I saw 4000 puffins and loads of seals. It was enjoyable and we had a nice walk along the coast.
“I’m thinking of getting a motorhome, I’ve never had one so we’ll try to rent one so I’d prefer to go on the next plane to the jumping state. It’s not just an option. “Great Britain and probably Wales at the moment, so I’m going to spend millions of pounds on a motorhome in Wales.”
Donald watched Joy return to his home with his family members on ITV, he and wife Dev have four children; Cat 31, Ali 30, Easy 26, Chris 22.
Asked how he would spend the rest of the money, Donald added: “I am a bit of a democratic socialist to talk to and the money will spread to the family as my brother gave him the victory.
“I plan to pay at least 0% and leave enough for me so that I can retire comfortably. Honestly, if I have a million pounds, I have no idea how to spend it. For example I can buy an Aston Martin, but I can get into the thing, but I can never get out of it. I’m fat! The only other thing you could possibly spend on it might be a moving house but I am very happy with our home. It’s in a beautiful area and we’ve been there 27 years and we have beautiful neighbors, so why move. So I would rather keep the money and give it to my loved ones. Motor Home is the only purchase on the horizon. “
Donald returned to Hubbardashers Adams Grammar School in Newport, Shropshire yesterday and will remain in his teaching position until the end of December, retiring two years earlier than planned. As homework, he set up a practice for his students to watch last night’s show but did not tell them how much he had won. They will question him on Monday about his new fate.
He said: “I resigned the day after the ceremony, the rules are that you have to leave at the end of the term, but I never investigated the possibility of not going back at all. How unfair will it be for my students at this level?
“They’re amazing people and it’ll totally disappoint them. So what I’m saying is that I’ll do this post and I’ll make sure my 13-year-old students don’t miss out on size or form in any way. And I’ll make sure the two are turned on automatically. Absolutely.” The thought of not returning never crossed my mind. ”
Donald is the sixth winner of the show’s পা 1 million prize and the first to return to the show in 2013 with new host Jeremy Clarkson, who replaces Chris Tarant.
The first UK millionaire winner was Judith Keppel in 2000. The only woman to receive the top award remains now, at 78, who has spent £ 100 times calling the show to secure a place.
Former physics teacher David Edwards and Oxford-educated banker Robert Bridges both won in 2001.
Multiple world champion Irish quiz player Pat Gibson became the fourth person to receive the UK’s top award in 2004, and was followed in the 200 followed by civil servant Ingram Wilcox.
Major Charles Ingram also won a million pounds at the top of the show’s popularity in 2001.
However, the episode was never shown and he was stripped of his prize in 2003 after being convicted of cheating.
