What are the new Covid rules and Tier 4 restrictions?

What about Christmas?

Negotiations between the leaders of the four countries continue to reach an agreement on easing sanctions over Christmas, but they say they will communicate a strong message to warn people of the danger.

Nicola Sturgeon told the Scottish Parliament on 15 December that the four countries would consider “extra precautions” before meeting with leaders of confused countries to discuss Christmas restrictions.

The meeting came after scientists called on the government to review plans to reunite the family with Christmas after the coronavirus case escalated.

Prior to the meeting, he said: “I think there is a case for us to see if we can tighten the flexibility that we have strengthened, both in terms of the time we find out and the number of people we meet.

“And I will consider the views of other nations – if we can come to a four-nation agreement, I think it is a priority.

“If this is not possible, we will certainly consider within the Scottish Government what we deem appropriate.”

Mess Sturgeon added: “If you can avoid mixing with other families on Christmas, especially indoors, please.

“But if you think it’s necessary to do it – and we’ve tried to be practical in acknowledging that some people will do it – please reduce your unnecessary contacts as much as possible in the present time.”

Scotland removed the UK-wide coronavirus from the Christmas plan within 24 hours of being announced.

Existing plans would allow the three families to meet anywhere in the UK between 23 and 27 December, but Scotland would not consider existing bubbles between the two families as one, with countries south of the border.

However, Miss Sturgeon asked the Scots to stay at their own home for Christmas.

If people find it “essential” to meet others inside the home, he said it will only be for one day, not overnight.

In reality, the rules of Wales, England and Northern Ireland allow five or six families to get together during the festival.

On 26 November, the Scottish Government set aside a cap of eight people over the age of 12 for Christmas. They further stressed that families should stay two meters away from the inside.

First Minister Nikola Starzan advised families to give each other vouchers for Christmas for health and economic reasons, and warned that on Thursday he would tighten Christmas restrictions around the edge.

As it stands, the three families can meet at Christmas somewhere indoors, outdoors, or in the east, until they meet someone else and meet together in pubs, restaurants, and entertainment venues.

Embraces will be allowed, care home residents under the age of 65 can visit relatives and Christmas church services can be held.

Travel restrictions between the levels will be lifted, but people in levels 3 to 4 will have to face fines for campaigning outside their council area by December 23.

Can I travel to Scotland after the lockdown?

Under Scottish rules you must not travel between Scotland and the rest of the UK unless you have a reasonable excuse such as work, study or necessary shopping.
