All three Welsh sides found out what sides they would be playing in Round Two of the recently re-branded League Cup this evening.
Both Cardiff City and Newport County won their way to the next round after wins over Portsmouth and Southend United respectively, whilst due to Swansea City’s Premier League status meant they only come in at the Round Two stage.
Due to the renovation being carried out on Newport County’s Rodney Parade pitch they automatically were made to be away for their Round Two tie and were placed as an unseeded North team, to avoid drawing West Ham United who are also unable to stage a Round Two tie at the Olympic Stadium.
The Bluebirds were drawn at home to fellow Championship side Burton Albion, who they recently came up against on the opening day of the season, with Kenneth Zohore scoring the winner that day.
Premier League side Swansea City were drawn away to League One side Milton Keynes Dons with the clubs last meeting being a 1-0 victory over the Dons back in February 2008 in the Checkatrade Trophy.
Newport County were handed a glamour tie as they drew highly-tipped Championship side Leeds United with the tie drawn as a home tie but the game will be reversed and played at Elland Road.
The games will be played on the week commending Monday 21st August with a possibility of one of the ties being chosen for television coverage.
