Talented American Tommy Paul and rising Russian star Aslan Karatsev will face off in the first round of the 2021 Olympics on Saturday.

Paul will play his first tournament since Roland Garros, where he lost in the second round to Daniil Medvedev. The American suffered a minor injury during the game and has been on the road to recovery ever since.

Meanwhile, Karatsev recently ended a disappointing turf season that saw him suffer early exits at both the Birmingham Classic and the Wimbledon Championships.

Russia started the season well by reaching the semi-finals of the Australian Open. He supported this by securing his first ATP title in Dubai and reaching the final in Belgrade over the next two months.

Karatsev has already had a hugely successful season and will look to top it with a deep run in Tokyo.

This will be the first meeting of Aslan Karatsev and Tommy Paul, so their current face-off is 0-0.

Tommy Paul and Aslan Karatsev are both long-range offensive players who like to play on hard courts. Karatsev’s form this season has made him the youngest favorite before this first round of competition.

The Russian enjoys playing aggressive tennis, controlling the rally with his flat groundstrokes. He is also very comfortable moving forward and can score points in the nets.

Paul is more than capable of taking on the Russian from the back of the field, but he can be a bit stiff considering this is his first game in a month.
