Former Wales international and United legend Giggs willing to take lower-league job

Manchester United legend and former Wales international Ryan Giggs has dispelled talk of him waiting for a Premier League job and is on the lookout for a job lower down the English system.

The Cardiff born winger who made has 64 caps for Wales was nearly appointed manager of Swansea City but after initial talks, the club appointed Bob Bradley.

Giggs who spoke to talkSPORT exclusively said that he is just interested in managing in the Premier League and would manage or coach in leagues below the English flight.

“I think a lot of things have been said about me that I would only coach in the Premier League that’s not the case.

“I would rather coach a League Two team in which philosophy and ambitions match mine rather than going in to the Premier League and firefighting and the owners don’t give you a chance.

“I’d much prefer that, especially it being my first job.”

The thirteen time Premier League winner who had a 24 year playing-career has only managed Manchester United on a caretaker basis after the dismissal of then manager David Moyes.

Giggs has been linked with the managerial roles of Southampton, Nottingham Forest and Middlesbrough over the course of the summer but all have opted to go with a different appointment.

The 43 year-old has suggested as a possible replacement for current Wales national manager Chris Coleman, with the former Coventry boss’ Wales future currently uncertain.

The Manchester United legend later went on to say he is happy to continue life as it is as he takes a break from day-to-day football and is enjoying spending time with his family, making appearances at conventions now and then.

“I think at the start I said I wanted to take a year out, but if there were offers I’d be stupid not to look at them and have a chat to various clubs.

“It only happened once, with Swansea.

“I’ve been linked with every other club in the country who has lost their manager, but Swansea was the only realistic one.

“That didn’t materialise, and I’m still in the same situation really - enjoying where I am in my life at the moment, but also if there is a club, willing to talk and share the same philosophy as me, then we will chat.”

Any experience picked up by Giggs should he take a job in the near future would be appreciated before taking on the role of the national team of Wales.
