Wales Sports Insider: Clippers Trade Filip Petrusev and Cash to the Kings

BREAKING: LA Clippers Finalize Trade with Sacramento Kings for Draft Rights to Luka Mitrovic

In a surprising move, the LA Clippers have officially announced a trade with the Sacramento Kings. As part of the deal, the Clippers will be sending forward Filip Petrusev and cash to the Kings in exchange for the draft rights to Luka Mitrovic.

Petrusev, who was acquired by the Clippers in a blockbuster trade involving James Harden and P.J. Tucker, was not in the Clippers’ plans, leading to speculations of an imminent trade. The move allows the Clippers to open up a roster spot on their 15-man squad.

Under the new Collective Bargaining Agreement, teams are now limited to carrying fewer than 14 players on standard contracts for a maximum of 14 days at a time and 28 total days during a season. By trading Petrusev, the Clippers will ensure compliance with the new regulations.

On the other hand, the Kings had an open roster spot and decided to give Petrusev a chance. The Serbian forward was a draft-and-stash prospect who was selected 50th overall in the 2021 NBA Draft. Petrusev has demonstrated his talent playing overseas and even represented the Serbian national team, finishing second at the 2023 FIBA World Cup.

To facilitate the trade, the Clippers will be sending cash to the Kings, essentially covering Petrusev’s salary on behalf of Sacramento. Currently, Petrusev’s salary is only partially guaranteed for $559,572.

While the exact details of what the Kings will be sending to the Clippers remain unclear, it is anticipated that it will be either a heavily protected second-round pick or the draft rights to a player who may never sign an NBA contract.
