The French Ministry of Europe and Foreign Affairs has published 2020 data on registered migrants worldwide on Twitter. These figures correspond to the number of people registered in the register of French people living abroad, a registration recommended but not mandatory.
Thus, on 1 January 2021, 1,685,638 citizens reside outside France. Among them, 144,084 French people have registered in the United Kingdom, ranking third among the regions hosting the most migrants from France.
As of 1 January 2021, the number of people registered in the French people’s register established outside 1 was 1,685,638.

Great Britain is slightly behind the United States, with 148,468 registered, and ranks well behind Switzerland, with 176,425 French. The government’s 2020 report on the status of French people living outside France states that in 2019, 1,775,855 citizens were registered on the register, including 147,548 in the United Kingdom.
The United Kingdom has therefore experienced a decline in the number of French migrants in a year, particularly observable in London. However, according to an interactive map developed by Europe and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the trend is correct in most countries around the world, for example in the United States.
Although a large number of expatriates do not know themselves for consular services, it is difficult to measure precisely how many French live abroad. But these figures make it possible to compare the French population in the United Kingdom with the rest of the world.
