Traveling Abroad: These are exceptions to the ban on leaving Belgium

SFollowing the decisions of the Consultative Committee on 22 January, all non-essential travel abroad is prohibited. The decision lasts until 1 April, although an easement is possible before that date.

Restrictions on non-essential travel:

Travel to / from Belgium for recreational / tourist purposes is prohibited from Wednesday 27 January to 1 April 2021. Travel restrictions will be governed in the context of road, air, sea and rail traffic.

Individuals coming from Belgium must be in possession of an oath declaration. A model form will be provided by the Minister of the Interior. The oath declaration must be attached to the Passenger Place Form (PLF) of the passengers and supported by the necessary documents.

Exceptions to the prohibition

During the ban, only necessary travel is allowed. On the contrary, these are the following reasons.

– Compelling due to family reasons

– Family reunion

– A visit to a spouse or partner who does not live under the same roof, as far as plausible evidence of stable and permanent living cannot be provided.

– Travels related to co-parenting, civil and religious marriages, funerals or funerals (of associates or relatives).

– Travel to discover medical reasons and medical treatment

– Assistance to the elderly, minor, disabled or vulnerable person

– Visit relatives in palliative care

– Visit students, students and interns to participate in the exchange as part of their studies

And cross-border workers?

– Travel related to daily life for activities which are also authorized in Belgium. Note that you will have to take a negative exam to enter the French field.

Animal care, travel under legal obligations (if this cannot be accomplished digitally), immediate vehicle safety repairs and tricks are also considered necessary.

From January 25, all travelers entering our country from the United Kingdom, South Africa or South America must honor the ten-day quarantine and undergo a PCR test on the first and seventh days of this quarantine.

“The Concert Committee wants any non-resident to be tested again on arrival in Belgium, in addition to the mandatory negative test before departure. This can be a PCR test or rapid antigen test. The Consultative Committee asks the Interministerial Conference (CIM) Public Health, Taskforce Testing and Kovid-19 Police Station to make this point a reality.
