Tour de France 2026: Great Britain seeks to apply for starters – stages planned in England, Wales and Scotland

For this a joint operation is planned with Ireland. A total of £40 million (about €47.5 million) has been earmarked for sports applications in the Treasury’s budget.

As Sunak announced, the government wanted to enable the population to experience top international sports on the site for free. In its current history, the Tour of France in Great Britain began twice: in 2007 in the capital London, in 2014 in Leeds, northern England, where Marcel Kittel won.

In the past two years, the Grand Départe – also due to the coronavirus pandemic – has been held in France: 2020 in Nice on the Mediterranean coast, this season in Brest on the Atlantic. In the coming year, Copenhagen, the capital of Denmark, will host the start of the tour on 1 July. This is followed by two more stages through Denmark before the race continues in Dunkirk, France.
