According to the Bordeaux Wine Interprofessional Council (CIVB), exports of Bordeaux wines are on the rise again in 2021 with a “great recovery” of marketing with the United States.
With 33 million bottles exported and a 67% increase in turnover – or 349 million euros – marketing of Bordeaux wines in the United States had never reached such a high level since 1985.
The suspension of US taxes helped recoveries
The increase is partly linked to the suspension, in March, of a 25% tax introduced by Donald Trump in retaliation for the trade dispute surrounding aircraft makers Boeing and Airbus.
Overall, despite the persistent health crisis, export from bordeaux (45% of marketing) increased by 30% to 2.3 billion euros in 2021.

new markets
Good health due to “historic” customers: China, Belgium, Japan which is now ahead of Germany, United Kingdom, Canada, Switzerland.
But “less traditional destinations such as the Ivory Coast or South Korea are also showing interest in our wines”, underlined CIVB in its annual report.
