The free alternative to Amazon Netflix that many people overlook

Netflix users face rising monthly costs, which add to the cost of living.

Across the UK, the Basic and Standard plans have increased from £1 per month to £6.99 and £10.99 respectively, while the Premium subscription has increased from £2 to £15.99. The streaming platform already extended subscriptions in January 2021, and rising costs in such a short period of time could convince many of the UK’s 14 million subscribers to cancel their accounts.

Netflix is already struggling with a drop in subscribers in 2022, having lost 200,000 subscribers worldwide in April and is expected to lose another two million in the next three months. But it’s not just Netflix that is raising prices, as rival Disney+ has also raised prices for UK customers from £5.99 to £7.99 a month. The mirror informs.

Amazon charges £7.99 per month for Prime Video, but Amazon has a little-known section that also offers free movies and TV shows for those who sign up. The free TV service was launched by Amazon in 2019 on the corporate giant-owned movie website IMDb.

But last month it was named Amazon Freevee and is currently available on Amazon’s website. The service offers free streams of movies and documentaries, along with shows like Sinbad, Bosch: Legacy, and Hell’s Kitchen.

The service is offered as a free option for those who no longer want to pay for a streaming subscription like Netflix. Amazon Prime Video will retain its role as the main subscription service, costing £7.99 per month or £79 per year, but the service also offers discounts for students and families. A one-month free trial is also available for Prime.

The Prime service was originally launched to allow customers to get additional delivery options, including free next-day delivery on many items. But in recent years, the service has expanded to include the streaming service, which offers movies, shows, and documentaries.

Core users also have access to select Kindle books and other freebies on Amazon’s website.
