The delta variants of SARS Cov-2 are no longer completely stopped by vaccines!

Since the delta version appeared, vaccines against COVID-19 are no longer as effective in preventing the simultaneous transmission of various infections. What is this about?

The risk of infection and transmission of the delta variant is high even when vaccinated!

SARS-CoV-2 spreads most easily in the home, where gestures and protective masks fall. Vaccination is an effective barrier to reducing the risk of infection, but it is far from foolproof, especially for the delta variant.

A British study conducted at Imperial College London showed that, in the context of home transmission, a complete vaccination program may provide very partial protection, but is still more important than without vaccination of the delta variant.

«Our results show that vaccination alone is not enough to prevent people from contracting the delta variant and spreading it in their homes. This can also be the case with other enclosed spaces where people are around for a long time. As we go into winter, it will be moreAjit Lalwani, a professor at the National Heart and Lung Institute at Imperial College London and co-leader of the study, said.

Despite being vaccinated, transmission is still possible

Between September 2020 and September 2021, researchers followed 621 participants targeted by the UK’s contact tracing system. Participants in this study were generally young and in good health, and reported only mild forms of COVID-19 or symptoms of mild COVID-19.

Of these people, 163 tested positive for SARS-CoV-2: 71 were delta variants, 42 were alpha variants, and 50 were basic variants.

Of the 71 people affected by the delta variant, 23 were not vaccinated, 10 were partially vaccinated, and 54 were fully vaccinated. These 71 individuals are index cases, which means they are considered the starting point of the pollution chain. Researchers regularly monitor and test individuals who have come into contact with the index cases; These are contact cases. In general, the 71 index cases included 205 contact cases, of which 53 were infected with the coronavirus.

the peak of the viral cycle

In addition to monitoring contamination within homes, the researchers also monitored the viral load of 133 people who had not been vaccinated or vaccinated. Every day the number of coronaviruses in their body is estimated by PCR.

The researchers observed that the viral peak occurs when the number of viral particles is highest in a single dimension, both in vaccinated and unvaccinated individuals. British scientists believe this very strong spike may have caused the delta variant to spread so easily, even among vaccinated people. However, the viral load of those who are vaccinated decreases even more rapidly.
