Swansea City are set to battle it out with newly promoted Brighton & Hove Albion for right-back Carl Jenkinson as Paul Clement looks to bolster his defensive ranks ahead of the new Premier League season.
The 25 year-old has failed to nail down a regular spot in the Arsenal side since his move to the Emirates Stadium in 2011, making just 62 appearances for the Gunners in a six-year spell.
The right-back also had brief loan spells in the Non-League with both Welling United and Eastbourne Borough in 2010.
And The Daily Express are reporting the Swans will go toe-to-toe with Premier League newcomers Brighton & Hove Albion for the right-back’s signature.
Paul Clement looks to be keen on strengthening his back-line, and is also keen on full-back Andy Yiadom from Championship outfit Barnsley - there have been several reports that the Swans have made a bid of £3 million for the 25 year-old Ghanaian.
The Swans leaked the second most goals in the Premier League last season, and that may give Paul Clement the incentive to be on the lookout for more defensive options to add to his disposal.
Jenkinson has been identified as an option for the Swans, and the former Charlton man will be desperate to obtain first-team opportunities if Paul Clement decides to pursue with a deal for the former England under-21 international.
The right-back also has one senior England cap to his name, which he made in 2012. Jenkinson was also part of the Arsenal side which won the 2013/2014 FA Cup as the Gunners came from behind to defeat Wigan Athletic 3-2.
The full-back has spent the last two seasons on loan at London Rivals West Ham United, where he has made a total of 52 appearances, as well as scoring on two occasions for the Hammers.
