Swansea City manager Paul Clement is interested in bringing Arsenal and England midfielder Jack Wilshere to the Liberty Stadium.
The 25 year-old played on loan for Bournemouth last season and is wanted by a number of clubs in the Premier League, as well as abroad.
The Telegraph say that the Swans head coach Paul Clement is a fan of the idea of bringing Wilshere to the club but is aware of interest from Premier League clubs West Ham United and Newcastle United.
Wilshere has warmed to the idea of playing for Arsenal’s London rivals West Ham United and has also been linked with a move abroad to Serie A side Sampdoria who have had one bid rejected for the two time FA Cup winner.
One thing that could favour Swansea though is that the Hammers are only looking to sign Wilshere on loan whilst should Swansea receive any windfall should Sigurdsson depart the club, then the Swans will be able to afford the £90,000-a-week midfielder.
The Gunners have put a £20million valuation on Wilshere although with his contract set to expire next summer, Arsenal may have to settle for a lower fee for one of their academy youth products.
The long-term West Ham fan has received glittering praise from a number of key individuals involved in football. World Cup winner and former Manchester United midfielder Bastian Schweinsteiger said he is one of the best players in his position.
“I don’t think one player makes a team. In his position, he’s one of the best players there are.
“I would say that Jack Wilshere has very good movement, he’s very dynamic and has a good left foot. He’s got a real eye for the way he sees his players around him. I would say those are his main talents.”
It is unsure where Wilshere would be played in the midfield as he can operate as both an attacking midfielder and as a deep-lying central midfielder, with versatility a key attribute for Clement to consider should he further his interest in Wilshere.
The Swans already have Leon Britton, Leroy Fer, Tom Carroll, Roque Mesa and Jay Fulton as definitive midfield options, whilst they await the outcome of Gylfi Sigurdsson’s decision not to attend the Swans’ pre-season tour of America.
A move to Swansea City for Wilshere could be seen as a chance for him to start afresh after picking up long-term injuries at the Emirates Stadium.
