Apple and Samsung are the two biggest smartphone brands in the world, but their views on smartphones are very different. Apple prioritizes simplicity, while Samsung focuses on versatility and customization.
Both of these have their advantages and disadvantages, and after using Samsung and Apple smartphones side by side for the past few years, here are six reasons I think Galaxy phones are better than iPhones.
more versatile cameras
Every year, the best smartphone cameras come from Apple and Samsung. However, Galaxy smartphones tend to have more versatile cameras. As we tested the Galaxy S21 Ultra last year, the camera proved to be far more versatile than the iPhone 13 Pro Max. The Galaxy S21 Ultra has a better telephoto lens and ultra-wide cameras. And the Galaxy S22 Ultra only widened that gap.
The Galaxy phone also has a full Pro mode and Director’s view for professionals. The new phones also have a dedicated proprietary app for better camera control. Those who want to have fun with their smartphone cameras can make use of features like AR Zone and Single Take.
At all costs, Galaxy phones tend to have relatively more versatile cameras. For example, the Galaxy A53 and Galaxy A73 offer significantly more camera features than the similarly priced iPhone SE 2022. If you want fun and attractive cameras on your phone, then it is better to choose Galaxy phone instead of iPhone.
deep customization options
One UI is the best Android skin in my opinion. It has a sophisticated design but still offers dozens of customization options. You can change the wallpaper, theme, call screen, home screen and app drawer layout, fonts and even the icon pack (via GoodLock).
In comparison, iPhone only lets you change the wallpaper. Yes, it is possible to change the app icon on the iPhone, but it is a very time-consuming process and involves using the Shortcuts app. You also can’t customize the lock screen app shortcuts. If you are looking to personalize your phone then Galaxy Phones will serve you at the best.
better file management
Although iPhones have the Files app built-in, Galaxy phones offer better file management. You can easily connect external storage devices or cloud storage services using the built-in file manager.
Renaming or transferring files or working with files through software and third-party apps is much easier than on iPhones.
better multitasking
Also, downloading files or data from third-party apps in the background is a terrible experience on iPhones. For example, the Spotify app stops downloading music files for offline listening a few seconds after minimizing the app or switching to another app.
If you want to use two apps at once, you can’t do that on iPhone. At most, you can watch picture-in-picture videos using any other app, and that’s about it. You can use two apps at the same time on a Galaxy phone and have a third app in a floating window.
better typing experience
Previously, the iPhone keyboard was faster and more responsive. However, the situation has reversed and Galaxy phones have more keyboard and layout options, faster response times, better word prediction and suggestions, and the ability to add a row of dedicated numbers. With One UI 4.1, Samsung also added language suggestions through grammatical integration.
The standard iPhone keyboard feels sluggish and fails to predict words. I often face typing errors while typing on iPhone. I don’t know if it’s just keyboard layout and design or algorithms. Although iPhone also offers the possibility to use third-party keyboards, the experience is not as good as on Galaxy devices.
Since using a smartphone involves a lot of typing, Galaxy phones generally provide a better experience.
Faster and more convenient charging
iPhones have always lagged behind when it comes to charging speed. Most Galaxy phones can be fully charged in about an hour. Most iPhones take at least 50% longer to fully charge.
Additionally, Galaxy phones have a USB Type-C charging port, and finding a USB Type-C cable is easier than finding a Lightning cable. You can use the same cable to charge your headphones, laptop, and other accessories.
These are the main reasons why I find Galaxy phones to be a better use than iPhones in general. What do you want to do?
