Saved by Bell reboot packs in nostalgia with returning cast members and classic references

Preserved by Peacock’s highly anticipated Bell Reboot, which follows a new cast of Bayside students, it was filled with nostalgia with dozens of tubes when it debuted on Tuesday.

In addition to reviving the roles of Mario Lopez, Tiffany Thyssen, Lark Vurhiz, Elizabeth Berkeley and Mark-Paul Gossella, the revival of the 90s sitcom replicated high school hallways with red lockers and the ‘Go Tigers’ sign.

From an old photo of a group of six on the walls of Jack’s (Goslayer’s) office to the next-generation high school still dining at Max, almost every scene takes visitors on a journey into memory lane.

Returning stars Lopez (AC Slater) and Berkeley (Jesse Espano) are back as full-time cast members, with Gossella (Jack Morris) and Thiessen (Kelly Kaposki), who are still married, showing only guest appearances in the first season.

The show focuses on Jack’s son Mac Morris (Mitchell Hugh), Jesse’s son Jamie Spano (Belmont Camille), Daisy (Haskiri Velazquez), Aisha (Alicia Pasquale-Pena) and Lacey (Josie Tota).

Mark-Paul Gossler returns as Jack Morris, now the governor of California, who has faced criticism for closing many non-resident schools.

He has offered to send students from these schools to some of the best schools in the state, including his Alma Matter Bayside High.

Mario Lopez returns as AC Slater, now a gym teacher at Bayside High, and Jesse Spano as Elizabeth Berkeley School Guidance Counselor.

Jesse Spano (Berkeley) earned a PhD in psychology, wrote self-help books, and has been away from caffeine for nearly 30 years before returning to Bayside as a guide-side consultant.

According to Tufab, Tiffany Thyssen portrayed Kelly Kaposki, who ‘started her own wellness brand and referred to herself as an optimistic physician’, Tufab said.

Meanwhile, a robot named Skitch Kevin has been revealed to be on the ‘International Space Station’ and Lisa Turtle (Lark Vurhis) is a successful designer living in Paris.

While working on the reboot with other members of the original cast, Berkeley talked to people about what it was like to be ‘back home’.

He also reflected the impact he had on many of the show’s young fans in the 1980s and ’90s.

‘Preserved by Bell holds a special place in the hearts of the people. It is a part of their childhood and it is sacred. We are all defensive defenders of that legacy. ‘

He added that although new characters would be added to the show and the original dynamic might change, the development team was very careful to ‘make fun of the true fans and give consent’.

The actress played the role of Jesse in the original series, and will return as an updated version of the character.

Since then he has been a guidance counselor at his old high school.

The actress is even happier that the reboot ended with a more sensitive value than she expected, saying, ‘For a nostalgic show to bring some joy to this world, it really makes sense.’

The reboot was picked up by former 30 Rock Shorer and Great News creator Tracey Wigfield.

Production of the series was halted in March due to the launch of COVID-19, and after months of uncertainty, filming began in August to complete the remaining three episodes of the reboot.

The initial reviews of the series were generally positive, with many critics praising the updated themes and the performances of members of both the new and old cast.

Tiffany's return: Tiffany Thiessen is also expected to return as Kelly Kaposki, although it's not clear what she's capable of.
