RT Archive | Eurovision Entertainment Coming to Ireland

The Eurovision Song Contest in Ireland will be held for the first time at Dublin’s Gaiety Theater.

Ireland was the venue of the Eurovision Song Contest after Dana won in Amsterdam last year. The show took place on 3 April 1971 at Dublin’s Gaiety Theater and was hosted by Bernadette née Gallachvar.

The Eurovision Song Contest was broadcast to millions of viewers in 29 countries around the world and was a huge undertaking for the RT team production team. The show was also one of the first outdoor shows RT was produced in color. 18 countries were represented in the competition, which was won by Monaco and Seafarin with the song “Un Bunk, Un Umbre, Un Roo”.

Ireland’s entry into the competition was Angela Farrell’s One Day Love song, which placed 11th.

The opening film features Grace O’Shaughsey and Brian McGrath in a horse drawn carriage from Marion Square to the Gaiety Theater.

Adrian Cronin offers his award to Severin, who represents Monaco.

This is the beginning of a new career for Séverine and the end of a year of hard work for RT end.

The 1971 Eurovision Song Contest was broadcast on Telefin Iron on April 3, 1971.
