This week, Pokémon had an extraordinary launch, with Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl taking the top two spots on the UK charts.
The DS title remake is the biggest Nintendo Switch game launch of the year, beating out Super Mario 3D World + Bowser’s Fury. To be precise, Brilliant Diamond achieved this on its own, not even counting Pearl’s sales. Brilliant Diamond is in first place, followed by Shining Pearl in second, while the two-game double pack is in ninth place. The combined Pokémon game is the second biggest boxing game launch of the year, after FIFA 22, but ahead of Call of Duty: Vanguard. Launch sales are down 26% from Sword and Shield, the big new Pokémon games released in November 2019. Sales are up 13% from the Let’s Go Eevee and Pikachu games released in November 2018.
