New designs are being tested that still “pop” after they open

The individual Pringles tube is being redesigned after almost impossible criticism.

The current container for potato-based snacks was condemned as a nightmare for recyclers.

It is a complex construction with a metal base, plastic caps, metal tear-off ids and foil-lined cardboard sleeves.

The Recycling Association has dubbed it as a first-line recycling villain – including the Luzozed Sports Bottle.

Now the Pringles manufacturer, Kellogg, is testing a simple can – although experts say it’s not a complete solution.

The existing version is particularly problematic because it combines many different materials

About 90% of new cans are paper. About 10% is a polyal (plastic) barrier that protects the food from oxygen and moisture which seals the interior which damages the taste.

But how is the akna? Well, a few Tesco stores are testing two options – a recyclable plastic ID and a recyclable paper ID. Kellogg says these licks will still create distinct “pops” related to the product.

Simon Elin from the Recycling Association told BBC News: “From the recyclers’ point of view, the Pringles tube was a base of poor design.

“This new version is an improvement, and we warmly welcome it.

“But, in fact, if they stick to a plastic id that will only exacerbate the plastic pollution problem – the picnic people leave them behind and they find their way to the currents and the sea. That plastic id has to go.”

The Recycling Association says many manufacturers need to rethink their packaging.

Kellogg says its packaging must be airtight, or the food inside will be spoiled.

It has been 12 months since the new designs were created. Pringles have a shelf life of 15 months – and three million cans are made every day across Europe.

Mr Elin said the polyal coated card may be recyclable but the product needs to be tested at recyclable mills to

And what is the LucoZed Sports Bottle? Mr Elin said its unchanged basic design was still a big problem, as the machines found it difficult to distinguish between the plastic in the bottle and the plastic used to make its outer sleeves.

He requested the manufacturers of the Sentry to reduce the size of the outer sleeve, as is the case with the new ribbon bottle.

The company said it planned to do so for the new year.

Sentry said it is working on a new material made entirely from marine weed extract that was 100% edible, biodegradable and compostable.

Environmentalists say such a trivial change will not solve the world’s environmental crisis – but they will contribute on a larger scale.
