Pierce Morgan gave England a chance to put together a pair of footballers who broke the rules of segregation and branded them “covidiots”.
Mason Greenwood, 18, and Phil Foden, 20, have been charged with violating Iceland’s strictly separate rules after having girls in a hotel bedroom.
As a result, England selector Gareth Southgate has confirmed that the two were not taken from Iceland to Denmark on Monday afternoon before the England League group games and will not travel with the rest of England’s teams.
Addressing their activities at GMB today, Pierce was furious: “They are young people who knew the rules … why didn’t they have adequate protection for themselves?”
“They’re living the dream life for teens and young people,” Pierce said. “And now they’re going to miss their first game because they have to be ashamed.”
Pierce also asked how their actions could have a worrying effect on other staff, noting that older staff were also working for England.
He added: “They are colleagues.”
The words came after Pierce shrugged off their actions on Twitter on Monday: “Their selfish reckless stupidity is bad, obviously.
But how did they do it? Footballers need babies to protect themselves from them – by bodyguards “
Pierce Times reporter Martin Ziegler responded to a tweet that read: “Phil Foden + Mason Greenwood will not travel with the rest of the England team from Iceland to Denmark this afternoon after breaking the bubble with Reykjavik’s girls.
“Gareth Southgate to confirm soon.”
Greenwood and Foden’s “recklessness” has been condemned by their respective clubs, Manchester United and Manchester City.
Icelandic outlet DV Claim that the team hotel has Snapchat videos of the two girls who met the England couple.
According to DV, England players had strict rules while in Iceland, including some exemptions for elite sports.
The outlet reported: “Under the terms of the exemption, players were not allowed to meet anyone outside the field outside their own team members and were only allowed to practice and go to the games.
“The rules of the players have been confirmed by the Iceland National Football Federation KSI.
“According to DV sources, the players were not even allowed to visit their families.”
The pair will now be behind in Iceland as England travel to Copenhagen for Tuesday’s Nations League match.
