Every year, GfK Entertainment determines the most successful albums and singles of the year. In 2021, ABBA and Nathan Evans top the list.

Every year GfK Entertainment sets the official German annual chart. In 2021 a Swedish band that has been established for decades and a British newcomer tops the list of most successful albums and singles: ABBA and Nathan Evans (26).

The comeback album “Voyage” by Agnetha Faltskog (71), Annie-Frid Lingstad (76), Björn Ulvaeus (76) and Benny Andersson (74) topped the German charts for three weeks, more than any other record in 2021. is longer. To date, it has been sold over 400,000 times in this country. So their spot at number one on the annual album chart comes as no surprise – except for the band themselves. ABBA thanked its loyal fans, saying, “We are shocked and overjoyed. We are gasping.”

Helen Fisher takes second place in annual album chart

Schlager Queen Helen Fischer (37) came in second in the LP rankings with her current work “Roush”, followed by AC/DC with “Power Up”. The punk rock band Die rzte landed in fourth and fifth place with “Dunkle” and Santiano with “When the Cold Comes”.

When it comes to singles, Great Britain newcomer Nathan Evans has a clear lead in 2021. His rendition of the New Zealand sailor’s song “Wallerman” has sold nearly 800,000 copies and stayed at number one on the singles chart for ten weeks. The former postman is very pleased with the continued success. “What happened last year was tremendous and changed my life,” Evans explains. “And to end the year like this is just madness, I still really can’t believe it all.”

Behind Nathan Evans were the summer hit “Bad Habits” by superstar Ed Sheeran (30, second place), as well as the dance number “The Business” by Tiesto (52, third place) and “Friday” by Ritten & Nightcrawler ft. Mufasa and Hypman (4th place). The top five was completed with “Save Your Tears” in the previous year’s Singles Annual Chart: The Weekend (31).

In terms of German-language titles, Boussa and Apache were able to finish highest in the 207 singles ranking. Their joint song “Madonna” landed at number eleven. Apart from each other, the two artists were already at the forefront of top-ranked German-language songs for the past four years. Over the next two years Bossa dominated in 2017 and 2018, Apache 207.
