Niantic and TPC announce new details for the Pokémon Go World Championship

Earlier, the first details for the Pokémon Go World Championship were announced and now more details have been released. That way we know how certain players can qualify and where the regional and international competitions will be at the moment where players can qualify. We have gathered below all the details announced for you today:

  • There are two age groups in which Pokemon Go will be played
    • Senior Division: Gaboren in 2006, 2007, 2008 in 2009
    • Masters Division: Born in 2005 or earlier
  • Played only in the format of the Great League
  • Players bring their own account, but play tournaments with a phone (unless otherwise stated)
  • Early registration is coming for players to become Legends this season
  • All other players can register later
  • Registration opens sometime in January
  • The following are up for grabs in the tournament:
  • Regional Championships:
    • 1st place: invitation to the World Championships and compensation for travel there
    • 2nd place: invitation to the World Championships
  • International Championship
    • 1st place: invitation to the World Championships and compensation for travel there
    • 2nd place: invitation to the World Championships and compensation for travel there
    • 3rd and 4th place: an invitation to the World Championships
  • Pokémon Go matches will be played on the following dates:
  • Regional Championships: March 26-27, 2022: Liverpool, United Kingdom
  • International Championship: April 22-24, 2022 Messe Frankfurt, Frankfurt am Main, Germany
  • Tournaments can still be added

We’re also curious whether Dutch players will try to participate! Let us know if you do eventually go, because for example, we’ll want to talk to you in advance and possibly during an interview.
