A new WhatsApp beta update is rolling out, along with a new privacy feature that will make it easier to avoid certain contacts or hide your information from specific users.
Spotted by WABetaInfo, the update adds a new option to the Last Seen privacy setting. Previously, it gave users the option to show their status to everyone, their contacts, or none. The additional option “My contacts except…” allows users to specify certain contacts whose status they do not want to see as last seen.
This will give users more control over who can see when they were last online, and is probably a good way to avoid some contacts making you feel like you’re not online to reply to their messages. That said, they will still be able to watch when you are online. And while there is still the option to block the contact completely, this option acts more like a “soft block” as they will still be able to contact you.
VPN Offers: Lifetime License for $16, Monthly Plans for $1 and More
There is also option for profile picture and about section. It is deployed with the beta version 184.108.40.206.14 of WhatsApp and can be accessed from the privacy settings of the sub-account under each respective option.
As shown in the image above, if you hide your Last Seen Status from someone, you won’t even be able to see their status. However, WABetaInfo notes that this limit does not apply to the Profile Picture or About section.
The feature is rolling out gradually to some beta testers on top Android phones, so those of you on the beta channel may not notice the option right away.
