Neil Warnock was in a zestful mood yesterday as he addressed the media ahead of Cardiff City’s first game of the season.
The 68 year-old reflected on pre-season and admitted that he has never had so much “confidence” in a bunch of lads whilst speaking to the official Cardiff City website.
Warnock also admitted he’s not a pre-season type of manager and is just looking forward to the big kick-off on Saturday.
He went on say: “I’m not really a pre-season manager, I enjoy getting the lads together and everything, involving the supporters, but I just need that little bit of an edge in a match.
“I’m glad we’re up and running now! I’ve never been more confident with a group of lads that we can get a result anywhere we go now.
“I don’t think many managers can say that. Of course, we’ll still need a bit of luck - some things never change - but overall, I’m really optimistic.”
With the signings Warnock has made during this summer, the fans alongside the players have a right to be confident ahead of the new Championship season which begins at the Pirelli Stadium against Burton Albion.
The Bluebirds will be roared on by over 1,000 travelling supporters when they make the trip to Staffordshire, however, the Yorkshireman knows exactly how strenuous this division can be and isn’t taking anything for granted.
“It’s a really friendly, family-oriented club and it always will be,” he continued. “Burton will be just as difficult as Villa - because that’s how the Championship is. Every point you pick up in this division, you earn it.
“I don’t think they’ve got quite as much accolade as they should have really - I think it’s the miracle of the last ten years personally, and all credit to them,” added Warnock.
After the trip to Staffordshire to face Burton Albion, the Bluebirds host both Aston Villa and Sheffield United at the Cardiff City Stadium.
