RABAT – Morocco has adopted a strategic approach to promote renewable energy through a large number of projects and initiatives, said Nasma Jorondi, expert in sustainable development, on Tuesday.

The Kingdom of Morocco, led by His Majesty King Mohammed VI, adopted a “strategic vision” in the environmental sector with the aim of developing energy efficiency and renewable energy, promoting regional and continental integration, as well as promoting technology and innovation in the region. has been adopted. , assured the expert, who was the guest of the program “Les Mardis du PCNS”, the weekly digital meeting of the Policy Center for the New South (PCNS) dedicated to “Assessing Morocco’s environmental commitments in the light of 2021 Glasgow”. Conference on Climate Change (COP26)”.

In his opinion, Morocco has left no stone unturned to achieve the objectives set by various world climate summits, which include reducing the production costs of renewable energy and strengthening the associated legal arsenal.

Regarding the Kingdom’s efforts to reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, the expert noted that along with Denmark, Sweden, Norway and the UK, Morocco is ranked fifth in the world in the 2022 edition of the prestigious ranking of climate change performance.

Similarly, Ms Jorondi underlined that the Kingdom’s New Development Model (NMD) has placed “climate justice” and a green economy at the center of its priorities.

In relation to the Glasgow Conference, the expert highlighted the key lines of the Glasgow Declaration, which mentioned fossil fuels and their impact on climate change for the first time, lamenting that some large countries have made their GHG reduction commitments. did not complete.
