Mohamed Aujar reappointed as head of Libya's fact-finding mission

GENEVA – UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Michelle Bachelet on Wednesday renewed the appointment of Mohamed Aujar as chairman of the independent fact-finding mission on Libya.

The decision comes after the Human Rights Council last October adopted a resolution extending the mandate of the said mission by nine months to allow it to fulfill its mandate in Libya. ,

At the 48th session of the HRC held last month, Mr. Aujar presented the first report of the independent fact-finding mission on Libya to the Human Rights Council, whose members unanimously supported the work done by this mission.

In this regard, the Council requested the fact-finding mission “to present a follow-up report on its findings to it at its 49th session (March 2022), with the participation of the Special Representative of the Secretary-General for Libya, and at its fiftieth To present a comprehensive report on the human rights situation in Libya in session (June 2022), including what is being done to prevent human rights violations and abuses and to ensure that those responsible for their actions respond .
