Championship outfit Derby County have seen their bid of £7 million for Welsh playmaker Tom Lawrence rejected by Leicester.
The 23 year-old playmaker spent last season on loan at another Championship club Ipswich Town, where he impressed - scoring a total of 11 goals in 36 appearances for the Tractors.
His performances over the course of the season for Mick McCarthy’s men also saw him earn the club’s player of the season award.
And according to BBC Radio Derby the Rams have had a bid of £7 million rebuffed by Leicester City as Gary Rowett looks to improve his side ahead of the new Championship season which starts this weekend.
The Welshman is versatile in that he can operate on both flanks as well as a playmaker and has already attracted interest this summer - one of them sides includes newly-promoted Brighton & Hove Albion.
The youngster is hot property following his successful loan spell at Ipswich Town last season and his most likely destination looks to be either Brighton & Hove Albion or Derby County.
He started his career at Manchester United but following loan spells at Carlisle United and Yeovil Town, he moved to Leicester City in 2014 for an undisclosed fee on a four-year contract.
However, during the player’s three years at the Foxes, he has featured on just three occasions. He has spent the majority of his Leicester City career out on loan, and also had a loan spells in South Wales with the Bluebirds, but failed to impress in the 14 appearances he made.
Lawrence also has six international caps for Wales and will be craving first-team action ahead of the four crucial World Cup qualifiers as Chris Coleman’s men bid for a place in the World Cup for the first time since 1958.
With Derby County looking to launch a promotion bid this season under Gary Rowett and Brighton & Hove Albion hoping they can give a good account of themselves in their first season in the Premier League, Lawrence could provide to be a shrewd signing for either side.
