One person from Massachusetts has tragically died from the disease, while another person from Rhode Island is currently being treated in a hospital.
The state health department has launched an investigation into the source of the illness and is working closely with the resort to determine the cause. The two cases do not appear to be directly linked, as the affected individuals stayed at the resort at different times and occupied separate rooms.
Legionnaires’ disease is caused by Legionella bacteria, which can contaminate water sources in buildings and hotels. In light of this, health officials are conducting tests on various water sources within the resort, including showers, hot tubs, water fountains, and faucets.
