Lee Selby keen on fighting Northern Ireland’s Carl Frampton

Lee Selby is believed to be eager to fight Carl Frampton and has told the Northern Irish boxer to forget about the Andres Gutierrez bout.

The Barry-born boxer recently defended his IBF Featherweight title, defeating Jonathan Victor Barros on a unanimous points decision.

Frampton’s latest bout was cancelled due to Gutierrez having an incident in the shower which meant there was no way the event could go ahead.

And Selby has called Frampton out and has said he won’t be “waiting around” for the 30 year-old - if the fight is to go ahead it would take place in either October or November.

Selby has a fabulous record in the Featherweight division, having won 25 of his 26 fights, nine of them coming by knockout and is now keen to test Frampton, who is nicknamed ‘The Jackal.’

The determination of the Welshman could put him in good stead going into the fight and is hungry for big fights to come his way.

Speaking to the Daily Star, the 30 year-old said: “Whoever comes first with a contract that my team are happy with then we will be signing that and fighting.

“He should come straight now into a world title fight against me. It makes sense rather than waiting around”

“Should they abandon plans to rearrange with Gutierrez? That would make sense. We should do it in October or November now.

“He should come straight now into a world title fight against me. It makes sense rather than waiting around.

“Do they know how long this guy will take to recover? I don’t know. As I say I’m not waiting around. I want the big fights so whoever comes first.”

The Welshman is eager for the fight to happen at the Principality Stadium, however, the bout is more likely to take place at either the O2 or the Manchester Arena.
