League 1 – Ottawa to England – Rugby League

The Canadian team joining Ligue 1 has communicated its move to the United Kingdom to be able to play the championship.

Ottawa will not play in Canada. The franchise created to integrate Ligue 1 was initially meant to use Hemel’s facilities, then came the pandemic. Today’s health conditions do not allow routine trips between Canada and the United Kingdom to run smoothly. Thus the team that was initially supposed to play the NARL would settle in England to develop into Ligue 1 the following season. If the location is not reported, rumors speak of a facility to play at Oddsall Stadium in Bradford which was bought by the RFL a few years earlier to protect Bradford. The club has announced reimbursement of sales membership as no matches are scheduled in Canada. The club apologized in a statement:

Unfortunately, despite the immense motivation, significant financial investment and the heart and soul of our employees invested in the task, it turned out to be too complicated. We would like to thank our sponsors and supporters, the Ottawa Sports & Entertainment Group, and especially our fans in the Ottawa area for their continued support. We hope that one day professional rugby union can return to Canada, and in particular at TD Place Stadium.
