Bernhard Langer defied all odds to claim his 10th Senior Major title in Porthcawl on Sunday despite suffering from a bout of illness.
The 59 year-old, who turns 60 next month finished with a score of four-under par as he posted a final round of 72 in Porthcawl on Sunday.
Lagner had been suffering from a bout of laryngitis prior to the tournament taking place, however, it didn’t seem to affect him as he won by three shots from Corey Pavin - Gary Couples and Billy Andrade finished a shot behind Pavin, both finishing on even par for the tournament.
The win for Langer meant that it was a record 10th Senior Major for the German-born golfer - one more than South African Gary player.
It never looked in doubt for Lagner as he cruised to victory in Wales, despite dropping two early shots on the final day - it was the second time the German has been triumphant in Wales, having won the tournament the last time it was played in Porthcawl in 2014.
In terms of Welsh players it was 50 year-old Pontypridd-born Phillip Price who finished the highest - the Welshman finished joint sixth overall following rounds of 74,73,68 and 70 across the four days in the over-50’s tournament.
The flamboyant Spaniard Miguel Angel Jiminez, who is a familiar name on the golf tour featured in the senior’s tournament and finished in 11th on three-over par.
