The Lamborghini Squadra Corps has unveiled its factory roster for the 2021 season, which will be the return of long-time Lamborghini driver Mirco Bartolotti and recent British GT champion Sandy Mitchell. Raul Guzman, 2020 Lamborghini Young Driver of the Year, will also become a development test driver for the Huracan GT3 Evo.
Many existing factory riders retain their sights as official riders for 2021. Five Italians are on the program: Andrea Caldarelli, GT World Challenge Europe 2019 champion, (who also won 24 Hours of Daytona in 2020), and Marco Mapelli continue, as do Giako Alto and Giovanni Venturini. After a racing season with Audi Sport in 2020, Mirco Bortolotti makes a welcome return to Sant Agata Bolognese as the factory driver for 2021. Bortolotti has been a key figure in the success of Lamborghini’s GT3 cars in the past, helping Graser Racing win the GTD class at the 24 Hours of Daytona in 2018 and 2019.
Albert Costa and Frank Pereira also retained their place in the program, while Scottish Lamborghini GT3 Junior driver Sandy Mitchell was rewarded for his 2020 season, to which he added another category victory at the 24 Hour Spa , In the Pro-AM category, for its British GT title. The 20-year-old Lamborghini Youngster has proved to be one of the most counted drivers in the program, as has Raul Guzman, who has had a terrific season at the Lamborghini Super Trofeo Europe Championship. The Mexican driver impressed in the year-to-year evaluation tests of the Young Driver Program and in 2021 is conducting development tests on the Huracan GT3 Evo.
