UA secret report submitted to the government by several experts, including Emmanuel Andre, presents an alarming report on the development of the epidemiological situation in Belgium. They make several conclusions after analyzing 1,800 positive samples for coronovirus, revealing to our colleagues from Het Laeste Neuvers.

The first is that the British version is more infectious than a study. According to him, it would be “at least 65% more contagious”. In addition, the spread of the British version will be very important in Belgium. He estimates that it will be between 15 and 25% of current positive cases and the proportion continues to increase. The report warns, “At the end of February, 90% of those infected in Belgium will wear the British version.”

According to the analyzes, this version may have entered Belgium mainly due to foreign trips during the year’s holidays. In any case, it was from that moment that stress was rapidly present in the analyzed samples. “Our data confirms that the UK variants in society began in the first week of January,” the report said.

Another important conclusion from experts: The reproduction rate of the virus (R) can reach 1.65 in February or March, the highest value after the peak of the second wave.

Finally, experts warn: the measures are not strong enough to deal with an increase in cases. “The situation is worrying,” they warn.

Virologist Steven Van Guchat points out that there is still a lot of uncertainty surrounding the conclusion. “This report is based on limited data and therefore we should view these results as the worst case scenario. Furthermore, the fact that the British version becomes effective does not in itself change the strategy: we have to limit the number of transitions, regardless of which version is predominant ”.
