After attending the G7 summit, US President Joe Biden and his wife Jill are received by British Queen Elizabeth II at Windsor Castle. Dressed in pink with floral patterns and matching hats, the 95-year-old Queen and her two guests from the USA held a parade of honor guard in the courtyard of Windsor Castle on Sunday evening.
In the hot sun, the national anthems of the United Kingdom and the United States were played in a parade of soldiers dressed in red jackets and bear-skinned hats. Then the Bidens went to the palace for tea with the king.
The US President had already had the opportunity to meet the Queen at the G-7 summit in Cornwall. There she attended a reception on Friday evening and caused entertainment as she insisted on cutting the cake with a saber instead of a knife.
With the exception of Lyndon B. Johnson, the Queen has met with all US presidents during her 69 years on the throne. He also welcomed Biden’s predecessor Donald Trump during his controversial visit to the UK in 2019.
After his visit to Windsor Castle, Biden’s further visit to Brussels is on the agenda. There he will attend the NATO summit on Monday and the EU-US summit on Tuesday. At the end of his Europe visit, the US President will meet with Kremlin boss Vladimir Putin in Geneva on Wednesday.
