Italy announced on Friday that travelers from the UK would again follow a brief quarantine, while those from several other countries would be able to enter freely if they passed anti-Covid health conditions.

The Department of Health said mandatory quarantine for UK travelers would come into effect from Monday, 21 June. “Today I signed a new ordinance that allows entry with green certificates from countries in the European Union and the United States, Canada and Japan», announced Italian Health Minister Roberto Speranza on Facebook. Green certificate is a health certificate which certifies the negativity of vaccination, cure or anti-COVID test, announced the minister. Roberto Speranza also clarified that travelers from the United Kingdom, a country where the more contagious Delta variant is widespread, will have to follow a five-day quarantine and undergo an anti-Covid test. It also extended the ban on entry into the national territory for travelers from India, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka.

20% more tourists

Italy is trying to revive the tourism sector this summer with 20% more tourists, which represents about 14% of GDP and has been hit hard by the COVID-19 pandemic. According to several government officials, the country is planning to do away with the requirement to wear masks outside during the first half of July. Italy has so far given over 44 million doses of anti-Covid vaccines. According to the Ministry of Health website, about 15 million people, or more than 27% of those over the age of 12, are vaccinated.
