Championship side Ipswich Town have joined the running for Cardiff City winger Craig Noone after Burton Albion registered their initial interest.
The 29 year-old has barely featured for Cardiff in pre-season and wasn’t named on the bench in Cardiff’s opening game of the season against Burton Albion.
The Daily Mirror say that the Brewers are currently favourites in the race for Noone but Ipswich Town have come in for him now with a £500,000 valuation put on the former Plymouth Argyle man.
When speaking to the media after the late defeat to Cardiff, manager Nigel Clough refused to be drawn on Burton’s apparent interest in Noone.
“We don’t talk about them until they actually come in.”
The permanent signings of Mendez-Laing and Junior Hoilett have seen Craig Noone drop down the pecking order, with many of his pre-season appearances being for the Development side, signalling Neil Warnock’s intentions going into the season.
Noone has been unable to capture the form that he picked up in the Premier League, where he scored against eventual Champions, Manchester City. The winger has been in-and-out of the side and last season, making 34 appearances but with most of those coming as a substitute.
Noone could feature though in Cardiff’s League Cup tie with Portsmouth as the Bluebirds ring the changes.
The long-term future though for Craig Noone looks like a move away from the club is the best option for both parties after Neil Warnock said he could benefit with a move away for his career.
“I think he needs a move and I think he’ll do well for the team he goes to, but I’m not in a rush. He doesn’t cause me any problems, he’s a good lad.
If Craig Noone were to join Ipswich then he would become the third player to do so this summer after Cardiff sold Wales international Emyr Huws to the Tractor Boys, as well as seeing out-of-contract midfielder Tom Adeyemi also join the club.
